Our Noise Reduction Wheels Awarded Quiet Mark Award

Jan 12, 2023

Nobody needs nuisance noise, especially from poorly manufactured wheels and castors. At Rolltek, we’ve made it our mission to improve the design and quality of mobile equipment for auditory comfort and lower noise pollution levels. We were therefore delighted to be awarded the Quiet Mark International Mark of Approval in 2022, in association with the Noise Abatement Society.

Why does noise pollution matter?

Noise pollution in shops, public areas, and workplaces is associated with a range of negative health concerns. The most widely reported are increased stress, disturbed sleep, and damage to hearing, and these can in turn lead to many secondary consequences. For instance, an increase in the stress hormone cortisol may contribute to a heightened risk of heart disease, stroke, and cancer. For companies, this can lead to employee absences, increased turnover, and lower productivity.

How do wheels contribute to noise pollution?

There are several ways that wheels can be unnecessarily noisy. The main culprits are friction between the tyre and surface, components gradually working themselves loose, and poor shock absorption. Known as ‘vibroacoustics’, the science behind wheel noise involves understanding the complex relationship between material stress tolerances, vibration patterns, and load design, which is something that the team at Rolltek tackled head-on with the support of the Noise Abatement Society.

Who benefits from quieter wheels?

The Rolltek solution is a Low Noise Rollcage Component Kit that has extensive applications across many businesses and industries. Our solution – which combines uniquely designed castors and plastic components - benefits any setting that requires quiet mobile equipment. We have supplied warehouses, hospitals, retail units, and transport hubs, helping to keep employees and their customers comfortable and safe. Wherever there’s a wheel, there’s a quieter way.
